My Experience

As a Software Engineer & Graphic Designer

Greetings humans! With over twenty years of experience in the software development industry, I’ve honed my skills in various capacities. My journey started with a year-long university placement at ABN Amro, a prominent Dutch investment bank, where I had the opportunity to apply my academic knowledge in a real-world context.

Throughout my professional career, I’ve been responsible for crafting diverse Windows applications, ranging from user-friendly help desk software to robust server monitoring tools. However, my primary passion resides in web application development and the intricate realm of distributed systems.

Over the years, I’ve designed user-centric web pages and engineered sophisticated backend systems to facilitate seamless account management and customer order processing. Beyond this, I’ve undertaken the creation of proprietary web applications tailored to streamline account-related processes across global offices, ensuring smooth communication and task execution.

My skill set extends beyond technical proficiency. With exposure to various roles, I’ve cultivated the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences. This adaptability proves invaluable in comprehending user needs and presenting intricate technical ideas clearly to both fellow developers and business stakeholders.

In a swiftly evolving technological landscape, I remain committed to staying ahead. Actively participating in computer and technology events, These opportunities allow me to remain well-versed in the latest industry trends and emerging advancements.

When it comes to the visual realm, I’m not just a software developer—I’m also a seasoned graphic designer. Armed with tools like Photoshop and Illustrator, I have the creative prowess to craft eye-catching logos, captivating graphics, and all the elements that breathe life into impeccable website designs. Whether it’s giving a brand a distinct identity or conjuring up visuals that perfectly complement the digital landscape, my skills as a graphic designer ensure that aesthetics meet functionality in every pixel.

Freelance Software Engineer

Developer

Present

Lately, I’ve been diving into the freelance world as a software engineer, with a special knack for web applications. My toolkit is like a mixtape of tech, featuring JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Svelte, MongoDB, and the ever-reliable NODE.js.

As a freelancer, communication has been my secret sauce. It’s not just about lines of code; it’s about understanding what my clients really need. Whether it’s decoding requirements, keeping projects right on target, or making sure deadlines are met, my knack for communication has been a rockstar asset. After all, tech’s cool, but understanding and delivering what clients want—that’s the real magic.

Golden Arrow Couriers

Software Developer

2016 – 2021

During my time with a family-run courier company, I took on some pretty cool challenges. One of my highlights was creating a GPS tracking system for their fleet of vehicles. Imagine turning trucks into dots on a digital map—that was me. I also whipped up a logistics tracking management system for their back office, making sure everything ran like a well-oiled machine.

Now, let’s talk about the behind-the-scenes magic. I got my hands dirty building and programming GPS trackers that fed data into our database. And don’t even get me started on the backend—the secret sauce that makes everything click. Tech-wise, I used tools like Node Red and Google Maps APIs to make data come to life on those office screens. It’s like giving each vehicle a digital spotlight.

Oh, and let’s not forget the in-house CMS. With JavaScript as my trusty sidekick, I teamed up with the up-and-coming Svelte framework to create something sleek. Think of it as digital Lego-building—putting pieces together for a solid foundation. And for the company’s website? WordPress was my go-to. I made sure it played nice with the back-office tools, letting clients load jobs with ease.

So, there you have it—a journey of turning trucks into stars, data into maps, and ideas into reality. Logistics might not sound flashy, but hey, there’s a whole lot of tech magic behind the scenes.

ADL

Software Developrer & IT SUPPORT

2012 – 2016

In my role, I was the go-to for designing, developing, and testing web and windows applications. One of the exciting things I worked on was giving the company’s ecommerce website a fresh new look. We needed to make space for products from another company (Bilstein Group) that we were joining forces with.

Besides that, I also chipped in with IT Support. Whenever there were glitches or on-site stuff needed attention, I was there to lend a hand. Think of it like tech first aid. My trusty tools included C#, HTML, CSS, and SQL Server. It’s all about using the right tools to build digital bridges, if you catch my drift.

2007 – 2012

During my time at DVS, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work on a bunch of web apps and software solutions. The mission was clear: make things run smoother behind the scenes. Oh, and I was the friendly face folks in the call center turned to when tech hiccups happened.

Tech-wise, I was all about Visual Basic, HTML, CSS, SQL Server, Windows Server, Windows Active Directory, and a sprinkle of VBA. Think of it like a digital toolbelt, ready to tackle tech challenges one at a time.
